What exactly is servant leadership?

servant Leadership Qualities

It is a concept that is based on traditional attitudes towards workers, yet it is distinctly different from the behavior expected of bosses. Whereas bosses value order and high standards, this attitude places emphasis on listening and understanding. Traditionally, the word “sheriff” was used to describe someone who supervised laborers, but in most cases today we use the term “servant”. Historically, servant leadership qualities were developed by aristocratic families who required their servants to perform menial tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and childrearing. Today, however, the concept has been modified to include more flexible traits including emotional intelligence, tolerance for uncertainty, and the ability to rise above trivial disagreements to solve problems.

What are servant leadership qualities? These qualities are essential if you are to build a healthy and prosperous team or organization. Leaders who foster a sense of teamwork develop positive attitudes that can influence everyone else to do the same. A group that experiences consistent leadership can become more effective and productive, as everyone is pulling together to achieve the goals of the group.

Emotionally intelligent leaders understand that the strength of a person’s character will influence his/her performance and the success or failure of a team or organization. In fact, studies have shown that teams with a strong leader tend to outperform those with a low-performing leader on a variety of measures, including productivity, profitability, employee relations, as well as the health and well-being of the employees. Therefore, if you want to build a thriving company, you must ensure that your leaders are emotionally intelligent and have effective servant leadership qualities.
